CAVE is a large-scale shared virtual reality experience that reimagines collective storytelling by bridging ancient human ritual and cutting-edge immersive technology. Produced at the NYU Future Reality Lab and premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival (2019), the work transports audiences to 10,000 BC, where they encounter a coming-of-age story rooted in early human mythmaking and the origins of visual storytelling.
Designed using the Parallux system, CAVE allows up to 50 participants to inhabit the same virtual environment simultaneously, each with a unique point of view while remaining aware of one another’s presence. By replacing solitary VR with shared embodiment, the project explores how collective presence, narration, and attention can transform immersive cinema into a social, ritual experience.
